Hi All - re: the ongoing discussion on repair of polyimide based flex and
acrylic adhesives - THERE'S A BETTER WAY

Several years ago DuPont and other flex manufacturers introduced bondable
polyimides which use "adhesiveless" materials and allow a person to largely
get away from the frailties of the acrylics. In the case of DuPont, the
material is called Pyralux AP and a good point of contact is Mike Crutchfield
at 919.248.5341 (NC).

We have changed over most of our existing product, which ranges from single
layer flex to 16 layer rigid-flex. Several of our suppliers indicate their
improved yields offset the added cost of the AP materials. In our assembly
shops, we encounter fewer measling incidents and I have heard of no
delaminations. We have also been able to eliminate intermediate presolder
bake cycles of the boards, which obviously doesn't hurt solderability.

Regards - Kelly
