Bill,

I have been manufacturing boards for almost 20 years now. I have found AOI sytems to be a valuable asset if your producing any degree dense circuitry. (ie. <.008/.008 dense ). The most effective utilization is really in the evaluation of the tooling artwork and inspection of the blue resist image. I have found that using the AOI systems as to process control tool has saved me tens of thousands of dollars over the year. Now, depending on what system you get, it is also an excellect production inspection tool when needed. However, I have found it most useful as a production inspection tool for innerlayers. Just my two cents.... Hope it is helpful.

Subject: [TN] Info about AOI

Hi Technetters,

As a single and double-sided bare board manufacturer,
we are wondering what AOI at final inspection could do for us.
Are there machines and systems out there that can meet or
exceed the speed and accuracy of a human? We would
appreciate your comments, supplier leads, experiences, etc.

Thankyou.
