Hi William,
You got some cute replys --- the Techies do have a sense of humor after
all.
"STD" is not an acronym. The STD-bus was introduced in the early '70s
by, I believe, Pro-Log Corp. It stands for standarized bus structure.
At that time a lot of people were trying to develop a standard bus
structure format. Pro-Log simple used the abbreviation for "Standard"
or STD as their bus name -- and a great bus structure it was. They sold
function cards (CPU, I/O, ADC, etc.) that plugged directly into their
STD card rack. They also provided assistance in helping customers
develop their own STD cards. One could convert a hard wire control
system into a micro-processor based system in a matter of weeks.
