I was always under the impression that STD was the accronym for

Sexually Transmitted Disease

This probably has little to do with computer bus systems.  Although it
might liven up your report a bit.

If you have access to an internet web browser, there a few sites which
act as acronym databases. I searched for the word 'Acronym' and found
about 60 sites. One I looked at was 'http://www.mtnds.com/af/' it
returned about 30 entries for 'STD'.  But my personal favourite was

Sacrae Theologiane Doctor  (Doctor of sacred theology)
