Dear Mr. Vigano:
1. Are the IX beds treated in house when they become saturated or is
this service subcontracted; and how many cubic feet are the beds?
2. If the IX beds are treated in house, how is the leachate treated?
I ask these questions because most solder strippers contain 300 - 700
g/L of total metal (lead, tin, and copper) when spent, and I had assumed
to concentrated to effectively treat via IX. (And this concentration
exludes iron in the ferric based strippers.)
However, to address your questions:
1. peroxide/biflouride strippers are sprayable AND many formulations
are not acidic - operating at a pH of 4-5; and
2. I am not familiar with IX resins which are effective in the pH range
of 2.5.
I hope this is of some help. If you have additional questions, please
feel free to call.
Regards,
Ted Stern
