I am designing a test program plan for pressfit connectors. It

be interesting to know, which kind of tests other companies have
carried out to ensure adequite long term reliability.
Our products are designed for indoors use only, in
telecommunications
systems.
So far we have made cross-sectioning and press-in force/retention
force
measurements ( Acc. IEC 352-5 )

Unfortunately I did not get any response. I recalled that someone wanted to
share my the responses.
Anyway, we test pressfit zones we plan to use as follows: ( acc IEC
352-5 )
1 ) Initial visual examination of pressfit termination assembled on pcb
-delamination, harmfull particles,de-centered terminations, etc
2 ) Examination of copper hole wall structure of pcb (
longitudal/transverse microsection )
-drilled hole diameter, thickness of copper barrel, thickness of
finishing
3 ) Hole deformation radius ( horizontal microsection )
-remaining hole wall thickness, max hole wall deformation
4 ) Shearing effect ( vertical microsection )
5 ) Press-in force
-max 250 N/comp. spec.
6 ) Push-Out force ( retention force )
min 20 N
7 ) Push-Out force after rapid change of temperature
-min 20 N
7 ) Contact resistance
PS My personal feeling is, that there is a risk to take in use a new
pressfit-zone. Our initial
examination showed that 2 out of 5 pressfit zones were unacceptable to us.
As far as environmental
tests are concerned, I was told that if pressfitzone to be examined passes
tests mentioned,
other environmental tests are not needed. If they were done , they will
not reveal anything new.
