Hi Rick,
We have a Glenbrook which we use for multi-layer drill registration and it
works extremely well, even on thick pcb's with heavy copper inner layer
ground planes. I know it can also be used for BGA solder checks and I have
seen pictures where solder shorts and joints show up clearly.

The camera is very sensitive and produces a clear image at low X-ray power
but I guess it depends on what the pcb construction is as to whether you get
a good BGA picture or not. If there are many ground plane layers then it
could affect the clarity.

Before selecting the Glenbrook we tried another machine which, although it
had more X-ray power, did not produce such a clear image. You do need the
optional image processor which digitally captures and averages a number of
frames to give even greater clarity.

Best thing to do is get a demonstration on site. They have a portable unit.

Good luck and hope this helps you,
Paul Gould
