Technet subscribers:

At the urging of a few of you, I am sending out this message for your information.
As you know, the Technet occasionally receives an unsolicited advertisement (spam).
More often than not, these messages are hoaxes, and any offers made in them are
usually bait to try to get information and/or money from the recipients.

Some very clever people with a lot of time on their hands have learned how to forge
email addresses and email header information. Essentially, they inject a spam
message into a network somewhere, making it look as if it has already been passed
along other servers over the Internet. The header information in the messages is
either partially or completely fake, as well as the originating address.

Please, for your own protection, just delete these messages when you see them.
Attempting to reply or send email to an address you see in the spam just verifies
another valid email address that they will then send to. Also, they often make
unbelievable offers, so that they can get people to give them their credit card
numbers via phone.

Please do not forward these messages or complaints about these messages back to the
forum or to me. Rest assured, I am monitoring all of the forums, and when I see a
message of this type in any of the forums, I do try to contact whoever is in charge
of the network being used to propagate it.

In the case of the last spam message sent through Technet, titled "Get the cash you
need now!!", the message appeared to come from an address at azureinc.com. I was
able to get in touch with the systems administrator at azureinc.com. The address was
a forgery, and azureinc.com is initiating legal action against the company sending
out the advertisement.

Thank you for your time. I will gladly accept any comments/criticism/responses to
this message, but please send them directly to me, not the forum.
