        Helmut,

        Cadence Allegro can output several flavors of Gerber and
        Drill data, as well as DXF & IGES.  Depending on what your
        aim is, there is a formattable extract language that can
        give you virtually _everything_ you'd want to know - this
        is the mechanism used to interface to most factory (ie
        assembly and test) equipment.

        But if you're starting some new knowledge or project, I'd
        watch the GenCAM format, an emerging industry standard
        that should eventually serve all the above needs.  Allegro
        can output (by way of extract utility) data for this new
        format.  I'd suggest a web search on gencad and gencam..
