Hi Paul - There has been quite a bit of work done by the JSTD-003 committee
with the SERA equipment - see the previous TechNet posting for that info.
There is nothing secretive about the SERA testing - it is just another way
of looking at surface oxidation in a much more user friendly manner that
SEM or Auger. I have been using SERA quite sucessfully on a number of
different surfaces for quite a while - give me a call and I can try to
answer your questions in more detail.

Thank you for the contact, SIRGuru,

I will phone the contact you gave.

I also had a discussion with a technical individual at ECI prior to your
message who would not discuss instrumentation theory, capabilities, and
limitations unless I purchased an instrument, and only at that time would I
be "enlightened." The fellow was not in sales.

Why would the SERA technology have a secrecy classification? Does anyone
else manufacture this equipment? Can it do something White Tin customers
ought not to know? Can it really deliver results about solderability and
impurities, and what are its detection limits and reliability? These are
questions I'll present to John Guy, as well, but perhaps the group can
share more.

Thanks again,

Paul Wilson
