Run very far away. No, I am just joking. The main advantage of the hot
bar process is that it is simple and localized. The only disadvantages
are that the surface being soldered must be at the same level (ie
flat), and any components cannot be in the middle of it. The last one
doesn't probably make sense, so let's do an example. I am attaching
four leads flat on a board, which is OK. Unfortunately, the design
placed a cap in between the leads, so I have to get a special hot bar
to do this, and the supplier doesn't know if it will work.

As far as TAB (tape automated bonding) goes, this is a good
     application.

Hello everyone,

Who out there knows anything about hot bar soldering?? We are
considering using an LCD with a TAB driver that requires hot bar
soldering to the PCB. The problem is I have no experience with this
process - can anyone please explain to me what is involved, and what
the pros and cons of using such a process are?

Thanks very much.

Regards,
