Marc,

As far as production line simulation is concerned, I use process
simulation software called ProModel from ProModel Inc. in Orem, Utah
(801-223-4600; www.promodel.com). I have not yet used it for an SMT
line, and it looks like it would be cumbersome for using on small volume
quick change lines, but for more dedicated lines I believe it would be
useful. I have used it to simulate other production lines and found it
useful to determine throughput as well as resource and capital
requirements. It is also good for customer presentations as it shows
the customers that you are seriously thinking about making their product
and how you plan to do so (and the graphics are neat!).
