Baseball my friend!  You know, it is shaped like the homeplate of a
baseball diamond.  The pointed side toward the center of the part.  The
only dumb question is the one you do not ask!  There is also lots of
articles that talk about this pattern in SMT and Circuits assembly.  Or
call IRI Int. and ask them to send you a stencil guide and they talk about

... perhaps a "dumb" question: What is "Homeplate opening" in solder
paste stencils? I knew until now only 1:1 or reduced size or a
special form patented by NCR (thus, not usable for me..)
