I run into the same problem too. But rather than throw the IPC spec out of the
window or writing off the calculator when I have something different, I ask the
guy who's in charge of the pick and place machine. It's not the most technical
way to create a footprint but he knows what the machine needs to perform
properly. I can show him something *similar* to what we have in the spec and
he can use that as a basis.
Fair warning tho, TechNet may not be the best place to lambaste the footprint
creator's bible. You never know about those loonies that are in charge of
libraries. ;-)
