        I totally agree with Mr Park on this, we call spec-
        sheet footprints "generic", to be counted on only as
        far as knowing the part can be attached.  Fine for
        1-100pc product life, usually manual methods.

        In our view, the next step of footprint qualification
        is "broad concensus" like IPC-SM-782, or maybe SMT Plus;
        next highest qualification being "narrow concensus"
        as seen in some larger OEMs (with a limited number of
        factories), highest being "factory specific" such as
        the major contract manufacturers and vertical OEMs will
        create.

        Seperating the many voices on the topic of footprints
        into these categories has helped us immensely in under-
        standing the chaos.
