What weekend - you mean I missed it again???
I have seen a short close to the component body on an SOIC component
before. In that time we had vias under the SOIC. The board had mixed
technology. When the board was wave soldered, a blow hole occured in
the via and sprayed solder on the SOIC lead. When we removed the
component, the blow hole was very evident.
