Maybe you could check out the Philips TriScan machine, launched at
Productronica last year. If I am correct (I am not using the machine nor
referencing the supplier) they are doing a 3D laser scan of the board,
after which the solder paste volume is calculated for each and every
pad. It takes about 20 sec. for a medium sized board, and the machine is
not extremely expensive.
