I work at a small company outside of Philadelphia Pennsylvania doing
(among many other things) PCB Design. My extent of education in this
is the few boards that I have done in the past year or two, along with
reading a few IPC documents and PC Design magazine. Most of this shows
me that there still is a lot that I don't know. Some of it I don't
particularly need to know for my job... (My company makes Digital EEG
machines. The highest frequencies that I have had to deal with is
Video Frequencies (with clocks for the logic only going about 16MHz).)
As such I don't know much about the pitfalls and design rules for high
frequency design. Most of the rules that I use for laying out a board
for EMC and ESD only deal with the I/O connectors (The rest of the
board everyone here expects the chassis to shield.)
I also know enough to know that I don't know much. For example I read
about designers being concerned about the electrical properties of the
FR4, but I don't know how these are used, or in what cases they need
to be considered.
My questions are:
1) What are good books to get for self education?
2) Does anyone know of any good PC Design classes that are given in
the Philly area?
TIA
Pax
