You still need to use the funny money.
I should do a better job explaining when I give prices. The member prices are for IPC
member companies. Membership dues are 20 times greater for IPC member companies than
for individual Designers Council dues...and the benefits of membership are different.
IPC member companies can buy an unlimited amount of publications at member prices.
Designers Council members can buy $300 worth of publications at member prices...Once
the Designer Dollars are gone, Designers Council members purchase publications at
non-member prices.
Of course this is all changing. Now a $50 certficate will be issued that can be used
for publications, videos, training, whatever. If you purchase at $50 document
(nonmember price), turn in the certificate and pay nothing.

IPC-2221, Generic Standard on Printed Board Design, covers all aspect
of design:
fabrication, assembly, test, electrical, thermal, etc. It is a newly released
document and supercedes IPC-D-275. It is $25 for members and $50 for
nonmembers.
For a thorough look a surface mount design, try IPC-D-279, Design
Guidelines for
Reliable Surface Mount Technology Printed Board Assemblies. It is $40
for members and
$80 for nonmembers.

Toucan Technology is a small design house that specializes in HDSL
Modems. We have just started to Layout our own PCBs and I am
looking for a good source of layout reference material covering
the PCB design process from end to end, along with some material
on the more vague areas of PCB layout such as Layout for EMC
compliance and component reliability.
I would like the names of a few of good books, training programs
or good web reference material to get us started on the right path.
We will be using Viewlogic's ViewDraw for schematic entry and PADS
PowerPCB for PCB layout, if anyone is using this combination I would
like to hear about your experiences, both good and bad, with the
software, give me a call.
