I have a customer that designed and tested a 5Ghz oscillator
using 0.031" thick FR4-difunctional substrate. The board is a
simple design with 120 smt comp's and some th. The customer
tested proto-type units and they works good. Obviously all of its
other boards are designed using FR4-difuntioinal.
I don't think any board contract mfg want to take this job when I
see the board layout (it is not designed for manufacturability).
My question to you is "What board material is suitable for
5Ghz without eating up too much cost? I looked into Rogers's
material but don't think the customer want to pay 10 times more.
