If the unit is designed for 10+ years service life (Auto, HVAC, Elevator,
some consumer electronics...) why does it need recertification if it sits
on a shelf for 10 years. This assumes that storage conditions are
comparable or better than use conditions.

Of course, if the battery dies and the memory lapses due to excessive
storage without recharge, that will be another story.

Our customers may store service units for years in our standard packaging.

At a previous employer, some customers had PCBs in boxes for 10 years after
the last production run to support service.

Is there a standard (or if anyone has a company standard they wish to
share) which describes recommended storage of assembled and tested
printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA's). How long may a completely
assembled board sit on a shelf before re-testing and certification may be
required. Any storage standards for final assembled electronic
assemblies (say a complete and certified assembly containing several
PCBA's) before re-testing is recommended? Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lainie Loveless
