Your suspisions of rough handling may be the best
analysis. Here are some things to check:
Start with this.
Where on the board are the damaged components?
Are they on/in a location where board flex could
cause mechanical stress? Like corners or edges
of the board. Then try to deduce where it is
occuring on the line. If you know your process
well you will find it quickly.
Experiment with a board. Flex it and observe the
resuslts.
Always, examine the damaged components. Notice
where the cracks occur. End caps, middle.
If you are still in doubt call the manufacturer of the
component. Ask for the Product Quality Eng.
They are always willing to discuss component issues,
especially if it ain't their fault.
