Craig -

I suggest you read the four part article on PCB marking in Printed
Circuit Design magazine written by Mary Sugden and Mona Johnson.  It
spans from November 1996 to February 1997.  It's an excellent article
for those who insist on marking components with silkscreening.  I
used their article to persuade my boss NOT to do that.  Apparently
the idea has been toyed with here in the past.  after reading the
article he saw how daunting a task that could be.  Our boards are not
meant to be repaired by "outsiders" and the pick and place machine
couldn't care less about the markings.
