Craig,

I use 0.060" and 0.040" for almost everything(there will be
exceptions!!)
with a 0.008" line thickness.  Experiment with some boards that you send
out
to different vendors to see how their silkscreens look at the smaller
sizes.
I experimented by placing some text in a non critical area...on a
non-critical
board, of course ;-) until I found what the different vendors limits
were.  Keep
in mind also that you can make your techs and assemblers go blind(and
mad)
by making the silks too small(believe me, I've been there!!!!!).
