I think you should SERIOUSLY speak with your system administrator to find
out if the maximum message length is an arbitrary setting. I have received
messages over 8megs before with NO problems. If it is some person who enjoys
making rules and exerting power for the sake of it with no good reason, I
would consider going to a higher authority to have the situation considered
from a more objective point of view. You should not lose valuable
information just because someone decides it is "too big".

Just my (not so humble ) opinion,

        The trouble I have found with the Digest is that it nearly always
        arrives truncated, with a statement that it is "too big".  Some
number
        of the messages are then lost.  I have talked with IPC and they
tried
        limiting number of lines but have not yet gotten short enough for it
to
        work with our system.

        In addition, no attachments are accepted through our system any
longer.
        The biggest problem with that is there are no notices that there
were
        attachments.
