Technetters,
Looking for some opinions on training. We are a small captive board
assembly house builing thru hole boards of our own design. We started
using IPC standards (A-610) about 5 years ago when we found the MIL
standards lacking. Training on both soldering and acceptance criteria
has consisted mostly of RTM (Raed the Manual). We are looking to raise
the skill level of our operators by certifing a Class A instructor and
bringing the training in house. It is our hope that with effective
training we can back down from our 100% visual inspection standard.
Anyway my questions:
1. Which standard should we train and certify to, A-610 or J-STD-001?
2. Of the approved third party trainers which is the "best" one for the
money?
3. Is the 18 month recertification necessary? What's the impact of not
doing it?
Thanks for this great forum.
