Subject: Re: Electroless Nickel

Hello all,
I've been working on a simple, cost effective way of treating electroless
nickel. So far the batch treatment of this spent bath is one of the more
difficult ones I have to deal with. There are alot more electroless nickel
baths running out there and my customers requests to help them treat the spent
baths are becoming more frequent. So far I've had pretty good results but I
would like to know if anyone out there has this process dialed in yet?

Steve,

You will have more response on ComplianceNet but a quick fix is to
electrowinn until it gets difficult to get good plating then run it through
a chelated resin. Check out http://www.remco.com/seeing.htm for a visual
demo. A good chelated setup can get it down to less than 0.2 ppm. The
overall cost is much lower than for borohydride or sulfiding agents.

If you want to sulfide, instead of using the expensive ones, just raise the
pH to over 8 and add good old sodium sulfide and this will drop the bath as
Nickel Sulfide and you should meet limits. A chelated resin polishing will
make it if the sulfide won't.
