     Jim Blankenhorn's SMT Plus also has the books mentioned by Phil, you can

     As a side-note and a question, I've been reading this discussion with a
lot of interest. Mainly because I know nothing about these types of assemblies
and solders...I've never had to build anything like it before.

     So excuse me if this sounds like a dumb question (but I'm gonna ask
anyway...), why in the heck are the printed circuit assemblies used in
automobiles mounted on what's got to be the absolute WORST place to mount one;
a hot, vibrating engine? Only other places I can think of that might be worse
than that is someplace like the top of a piston or shoved up the tailpipe!
(...I better not speak too fast, maybe they are! GRIN)

     Seems to me that the place to mount the electronics would be at the very
least up on the firewall in the engine compartment, or better yet, inside the
passenger compartment...there's gotta be some reason they don't, huh?...or
isn't there?
