In situations where we built product for customers with this situation (I.E. SUN, COMPAQ), we
used a photoimageable letter screen product. When your designators become smaller than a .007"
width, the typical screening process of letter screen created a blurred image. A photoimageable
letter screen material is available from many of the LPI soldermask manufacturers. It is best
applied using a 110 mesh or less screen. The actual process involves enlarging the characters by
.015" (actual number is shop dependent) to create a screen that will allow for enough ink to
insure outlining of the characters, after a tack dry, it is imaged, developed, and cured like an
LPI S/M. Insure that you run some tests for adhesion, color integrity and assembly
compatibility before final acceptance. Hope this helps...... JOHN WAITE
