I tried to find these patents on the IBM Patent Server, but I found
only non-SMT topics under these numbers.

USP 4,812,692
http://www.patents.ibm.com/details?patent_number=4812692:
"Motor" (Mitsubishi)

USP 4,814,870
http://www.patents.ibm.com/details?patent_number=4814870:
"Portable infrared imaging apparatus" (Comprix)

None is from Matsushita, none is about SMT. I asked Mike C in the
smtnet.com forum to provide more informations about these patents.
Perhaps IPC could put the letter Mike C and Steve Gregory mentioned
in this and/or the DesignerCouncil?
