I've been trying to get info in the past several years on this very subject.
The only conclusion to date is that mil-std-130 states you must specify the
method of marking, that is must be legible, and it must be permanent.  It
does not state you must use any specific method as long as the method chosen
does not effect the performance/integrity of the part.  We are starting to
use kevlar and polyester labels from Brady and have run tests for
performance with cleaners, coatings .....
