My experience is it depends. I use two servers in my Engineering Services department, a Novell and windows NT. I have found that the long file name structure is more dependant on the software applications we are using to process the data. In our group we use primarily 32 bit apps, but we also still use both 8 and 16 as well. They don't handle the long file names.

Subject: [TN] Long -CAD- File Names

     Techies,

Using Windows NT, CAD output files for fab and assembly are no longer
limited to names with just eight characters.

     Here's the question:

Are you're vendors capable of using these files without any problems?

     Thanks,
     Rick
