If you have a choice, make the space wider.

All other things being equal,the etching process capability increases in
direct
relation to the spacing.

If your supplier adds cost at 8/8, they need all the help they can get.

I believe that the width of trace and width of 'airgap' are independent of
each
other.  The 'airgap' should solely rely on the voltage potential between two

traces.  I would guess that it is just a convenience for the PCB vendor to
have
both specs the same.
