There seems to be some confusion about what I said. I never said we should
not use the results of the benchmark. I said that the benchmark was not
looking at some of the things that had been discussed. Did the benchmark
grade ease of use, quality of training materials, ramp-up time for a new
designer? That is what I was talking about, not the dedication of any of
the people doing the benchmarks, be they AE's or volunteers. FWIW: the
"smiley" on the end of the line was intended to show that it was a
tongue-in-cheek reply, not a comment to get a flame in reply (:-} Any results
I had seen of the benchmarks didn't include these factors, and it needs to be
done. If the "several DESIGNERS from several different COMPANIES who use
different CAD software" talked amoung themselves about the above things it
could have been reported.

I would have no trouble "volunteering" for any of these tasks when the
conference comes to Portland, but since the bay area seems to have a lock on
the site, and being that I don't have an extra $1000 floating around to pay
for my own travel and expenses, I wouldn't hold my breath. This whole thing
could be done on the web, but I don't know how many people would bother to
use it.

I think most people consider PCB design only a job and not a calling (:-p
