Don't be too hard on Mentor Graphics. I've learned a lot of CAD systems
in my time, and have seen that none of them perfectly match the needs of
the designer. The reason? Firstly these systems are developed by
software engineers, not pcb designers. These software engineers most
likely have never designed a board (particularly under the gun), and
most probably not know a good design if it jumped up and bit them on
their nose. Second, the code they write has to suit a wide variety of
users. They are trying to develop a tool that can be used to design
power supplies, analog circuits, and high speed digital logic. This is
a pretty daunting task if you ask me.

The only solution to this mess that I can see is to take some
programming classes (in all that spare time you have), and write some
code that will customize your system to your companies particular needs
(also in your spare time).

And what is all this time about overtime pay? Out here in silly-con
valley I haven't even heard of anyone collecting OT in years and
years... Probably those that got OT have retired now as millionaires.
