Good day ya'll!!

In light of all the discussion about Palladium, I went out "surfing" on
the NET to try and find something (anything actually) that would bear out the
concerns that some of us seem to have with Palladium platings.

I did this not to come up with references that I can throw back at people
who have a different opinion than my own, but to truely try and learn
something. I'm thinking; "Maybe I could be wrong about this after all, let's
try and find out if I am..."

As much as I could search over lunchtime, I couldn't find one site that
had any negative things to document as far as soldering and palladium as a
metal finish is concerned. That's not to say that there isn't some information
out there, but I couldn't find it on the WEB during lunch. I also went to
WWW.TI.COM, and typed "palladium" in their search engine at their site...It
came back with 11-hits of articles and papers that were out for anybody and
everybody to read regarding soldering to palladium.

So I'm really trying to keep a open mind about this, but it's getting
harder to do when I can't really find evidence of anything other than the
different solder joint apperance that occurs with a palladium coated lead.

If there really is some concern with the reliabilty of palladium, I
sincerely would like to know about it. After all, I figure I got at least
another 20-years of work in me till I can retire (unless I get lucky and win
the lotto...HA!), and I don't think I'm going to be changing feilds anytime
soon, so I'm going to have to deal with this for at least the next 20-years...

I'm not pretending to know all there is about palladium, because I know I
don't. I have run across a few other engineers that are just as passionate
about their positions on palladium plating and Texas Instruments as Ed is,
they hate them both...and I honestly don't understand why.

                                               Can somebody please enlighten
me?

                                                             -Steve Gregory-
