Hi Don - Heavy metals are those which hurt your back when you pick them up!
(and that was a poor attempt at Monday humor).

Metallurgists have traditionally "categorized" metals into 4 divisions:

heavy metals - iron, copper, nickel, chromium, etc.
light metals - aluminum and magnesium, etc.
white metals - lead, tin, zinc, and cadmium, etc.
precious metals - gold, platinum, palladium, silver, etc.

The current "categorization" scheme usually has heavy metals as being those
elements which are toxic poisoning such as lead, cadmium, mercury, etc.
Heavy metals can have several definitions depending on your topic of
interest. Good luck.
