Richard,

As you have been previously advised, the present exchange rate should be 
calculated at $1.6 = £1 (Pound Sterling) however you will NOT have to 
consider VAT. (Sales Tax to you which here and in most other European 
countries is around 15% to 20%, 17.5% in the UK)

You WILL however, have to pay import duty into the USA but if they 
(supplier in Chelmsford) have a distributor in the US, he/they really ought 
to quote you Delivered Duty Paid (DDP is a term you should see on their 
invoicing)

To discover the duty level requires some expert help because the books 
cover literally 1000's of items.

In my experience, the duty level will probably be around 6% or 8%. Hope
