The easy answer is to run the commoning connection internally to the card. I
realize that this is not always an option.

I have experienced a problem similar to what you described on an OSP card.
After the external commoning connection was severed a final process step was to
microetch clean and apply the OSP. We experienced a galvanic etch at the end of
the commoning connection that left a severe gold overhang that would damage
connectors. The fix was to better control the microetch clean and make sure the
number of passes through OSP was tightly monitored.

If none of this makes sense for your particular product, I would simply start
by looking at the bevelling tool and how the bit life is controlled for
resharpening and changing.

Subject: [TN] Gold -Finger Bevel Issue

We are starting to see a small amount of bent connectors from riser cards that
exhibit a slight overhang of Gold plating material left after beveling gold
finger robber bars off.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to design around of illiminate this issue?

Thanks
