Jacob,

I would say you have two alternatives

1. Go to some direct metallization system - they inherently do not contain
formaldehyde.

2. Continue to use the present system, but destruct the formaldehyde.  It
should react with excess caustic in the Cannizarro reaction that always occurs
to a small extent in an electroless system. Or, you could carbon treat the
waste stream which would remove all the organics.  The organics adsorbed would
be the formates from the electroless reaction and the formaldehyde from the
spent bath.  Then you would still have to deal with the regeneration of the
carbon black - or the disposal.
