In the past I have made this a part of incoming inspection (especially to
qualify new vendors).  A laser section microscope is quick and easy
(measure across an aperature with the stencil in contact with a flat
surface).

The results:    nominal thickness reasonably accurate and uniform
                step down areas -- thickness commonly inaccurate and non-uniform

Hi,
I would like to know if anyone measures the stencil thickness at various
locations to check the stated thickness (in our case 7 thou and 8 thou) is
actually what you get?
Do stencils vary over the expanse of the frame to any appreciable extent?
We
use stainless shim, fully mounted.
