Hello Technetters,

To reduce the number of solder shorts on our through hole components, we
are using solder thief pads on the solder side of our PCB. Presently, I am
in the process of redefining the design of those pads and I would like to
know if somebody has information related to this subject. More precisely, I
would like to know:

- What is the optimal width for a solder thief pad? Does it change
depending on the component type (lead spacing, lead length, etc.)?

- What is the recommended distance between the last row of lead and the
thief pad?

- Where can I find information on this subject?

Thank you,
