John,

Does Steve have an e-mail address or do we respond thru yourself?

It would seem that some improvement on the quality or type of enclosure
would be in order. I would presume the electronic assembly is conformally
coated, if not this would certainly help but, connectors don't get coated
nor other devices such as trimmers presets etc.. Certainly wood
shavings/dust are very aggressive material and will become more so if there
is high humidity or condensation present.

It would be interesting to know how the PM recommends the cleaning be done
especially in a saw mill. This suggests a new line for the Monty Python
lumberjack sketch...

Regards, Graham Naisbitt

Subject: [TN] (Fwd) Gold Plated Edge Connectors

Good Morning,

The following query was received this morning. While I can provide some
real life experiences for
this gentleman, I thought that this group could provide some more concrete
information.

Thanks

John Parsons
Circuit Graphics Ltd.

Hi!
I am curious about corrosion and gold plated connectors.
I work in a sawmill - dusty enviroment.
There are PM's which call for unplugging boards and cleaning
these connectors, once a year.

My experience is Gold doesn't corrode.
Leave the boards for a longer time. Unplugging these boards,
in my opinion, would create more of a problem then cleaning
would prevent. (unplugging/plugging - starts to scrape off
the Gold plating.

What do you suggest.
   Steve Redly,
    Weyerhaeuser, Lumby.
