Kathy,

I haven't heard of any problems reading fiducials on boards that have
been OSP coated...but obviously you have had some. I've got a few questions
then:

1. Are you teaching the fiducials that you're having problems with? or are you
doing a vision copy on previously taught fiducials because the ones on the
OSP
coated board are the same shape and dimensions? Try re-teaching the OSP
coated fiducials, there's one step during teaching that has you clean the
"noise"
up in the fiducial image...most of time that's all that's needed to get a
clear image
that the camera can easily recognize. After re-teaching, save them under a
special name instead of circle, square, or what have you...

2. If that doesn't help, you can adjust the polarizing filter...it's the
silver ring just
below the camera lens. You'll need to go to a live image of the fiducial
(just like
when you're teaching), and then loosen the small set-screw that's on the
filter.
Rotate the filter while looking at the vision monitor until you get a nice
clear
defined fiducial, then tighten the set screw. I need to let you know once
you've
done this, it's going to affect the fiducials you've previously taught in
other
programs. Basically, you've changed the amount of light that is entering
the
camera. It may, or may not require you to re-teach those fiducials
again...it
depends how much you've re-adjusted the filter.

3. As a last resort you can change the vision scale from Gray Scale to Binary
in
the PWB data area of the program...maybe the OSP coating is showing up in
the camera as a shade of gray that's obscuring the fiducial...but I don't
really
    think that's the case.

If none of the above works, then get a bunch of Q-tips, some alcohol, and
clean all them fiducials off...JUST KIDDING! har-har! Seriously, if none the
above things work then something can be done with the lighting
adjustment...but that needs to be done by a Service Engineer...it's an
adjustment on the lighting board itself and will require calibrations anytime
you adjust it. But I don't think you will need to go that far.

I don't know if you're planning to go to NEPCON, but if you are, and if you
feel so inclined, I'd like to see one of the boards that is giving you
problems. Stop by the booth and lemme take a gander at it. Like I said
earlier, I haven't heard of any problems to speak of reading OSP coated
fiducials, and I'm interested if you are having problems what these boards
look like. If you can't make NEPCON and would like me to see one of the
boards, you can send one to me at our Fremont office and I'll take a look at
it when I get back from La-la land...
