Hi Gary!

I don't know that off the top of my head, but I can give you someone who
you CAN talk to you about that stuff. His name is Dennis Johnson with a
company called "Onanon", all they do is drill, route, and score bare
PCB's...so they've become some VERY GOOD experts in that subject.

In fact there was conversation that I had with Dennis a while ago
concerning exactly the same thing that you have a question about. He had done
a study that was requested by one of his customers, (3-COM) to find out just
how close one could put a SMT capacitor to a score line on a PCMCIA PCB and
not risk fracturing the joint when you depanelized or singulated the card, so
he would be the man to talk to.

He's a wealth of information about that stuff. He also developed a chart
that is very usefull when you're trying to specify the proper score depth for
different laminate thickness...some of you must know what a pain in the butt
it is to have to build boards that haven't been scored correctly. You either
can't separate them after you built the darn things without ripping the
laminate, or the panel falls apart when you're halfway in the middle of
building them...ARRRGGG!!

It's a simple chart to use, you plug in what the finished PCB panel
thickness is, how wide the individual board is going to be, and then you read
what the web should be (the part that remains after the score). Then you
subtract the web thickness from the overall thickness, and then divide that
number by two, and you have what the score depth should be on each
side...better yet, just let "Onanon" do your scoring for you (had to throw a
plug in for Dennis, he's really a great guy!)

     Anyways, after my disertation, here's Onanon's number (408) 262-8990 ,
and they're located in Milpitas, California....(remember the movie "The Attack
of the killer tomatoes"?....hehehe)
