Dear How & Paul,

I have to disagree with Paul. If someone from the workfloor gives a signal that a process in not working properly (and in my opinion this is what your supervisor does) you should not disregard this.

Regarding the first question it is correct that these sensors aren't there for fun. But in my experience I have seen some wave soldermachines where the operator was glad to have a smooth chip wave...... So the covering of the sensors in that case was a method of being sure that he could solder with a good solderwave. Maybe that these actions from your supervisor indicate a problem with your wave, maybe dross build up in your nozzle.

Concerning the second question, this depends on the flux you are using. Both could be right. I suggest you check with your flux supplier to see what the right temperature is.
