Hi Christian - You should not have to do "anything" to a printed wiring
board that you remove from your storage area prior to assembly if: a) the
pwb was correctly fabricated; b) the pwb was correctly stored/shipped. Your
pwbs should be free of dirt, oils etc. but otherwise there is nothing to
"remove" from a pwb prior to assembly if proper handling procedures have
been observed. As to your question of "tempering", solder doesn't need
tempering although some assemblers bake out their pwbs prior to assembly
due to moisture issues. Lastly, most assemblers try to control the
temperature and humidity of their pwb storage area - most commonly values
referenced are 75 F +\- 10, 30-60% RH. The ANSIJ-STD-001B specification
has some guidance in this area that you may find helpful. Good Luck.

Subject: [TN] How to treat a PWB ???

All,
I just ran into the following question: Is there a standard specifying
how to treat a PWB before starting any assembly process, e.g.
- what to I have to do in order to maintain storage/shelf time ?
- do I have to temper (how long) a PWB ?
- do I have to clean (how) a PWB ?
- etc.
You could name it sort of "Workmanship Standard" for different types of
boards. Any help/comment will be appreciated.
