Some years ago, there was a mechanical system on the market for measuring
the height of paste deposited on a pad. The system consisted of a small
granite block, a needle attached to a Mititoyo measuring device that was
moved by a thumbscrew and a monocular 'scope set at about a 30 degree angle
with a back light.

The measurement was taken by moving the needle down until it contacted the
top of the paste, zeroing out the Mititoyo, then driving the needle down
until it touched the pad itself. The Mititoyo then read out the thickness
of the paste.

Does anyone know of such a simple system out there anymore?

TIA

Charlie B.
