Hi James,

Good to hear from you again. If you have a chance say hi to Greg
Lewandowski for me.

Test patterns. Question 1, which test patterns are you asking about,
or is this a "all inclusive" test pattern. There are test patterns for
microsectioning, soldermask adhesion, impedance, etc, etc.

As far as I know, and have done this in cases, you can design the
test patterns onto the artwork (database) yourself, or you can ask
the fab house to fab your boards per a specification which defines
what "test coupons" are required (and the spec defines what test
criteria they must be fab'd to).

If you are asking for the "test coupon" per IPC-D-275, that might be
easier for the fab house to add with their CAM software, and it
will probably coincide with how the actual board is produced
(one per panel, two per panel, left side, right side, etc.) But, I have
worked at a place where WE DID add the patterns to the artwork.
Look at IPC-RB-276, it will give you a very good idea of what
the board house should be building your boards to. It shows
most of the coupons and defines many of the test the fab houses
should follow.

If you are asking for impedance "coupon" patterns, that might need
to be specified by your group (the engineers know better what is
allowable for impedance testing). The fab house will add impedance
patterns, but the test might be too generic for your design.

Good luck, if you need more help give me a call. See you at PCB West
in March!

Who should create test coupons? Per what? We supply 'one'-up design database to board supplier. Thanks.
