Mike,
You create a small PCB to translate the new pin-out to the old pin-out.
The bottom of this small PCB is soldered to your board with the bad
pin-out. This small PCB is slightly smaller (10 mils? side-side) than
the footprint you are translating to. You end up soldering on the edge
of this new smaller PCB. Get the idea? I had the same problem once and
this method worked perfectly.
